...your guide to using optics.

What about light transmission and optical coatings?

Light transmission refers to the amount of available light that passes through a binocular or spotting scope. Anti-reflective coatings applied to lens surfaces help to increase the amount of light that reaches your eye for a brighter and sharper image. Optical coatings come in gradations. Higher quality and complex coating schemes will deliver superior optical images. “Coated” means some lenses have been coated with a single-layer. “Fully-coated” means all air-to-glass surfaces have been coated with a single-layer coating. “Multicoated” lenses have multiple coatings applied to some surfaces. Binoculars that are “Fully Multicoated” have multiple coatings on all air-to-glass surfaces and render the highest image quality in terms of brightness, color, and sharpness.
